Blip Festival 08 - LIVE in NYC

Well, last night was the night! Amiga/SH-101 set down at Blip Fest in Brooklyn NY, with amazing visuals from The C-Men and a crowd of excellent people. Everything went well, and once I was done I was able to enjoy the rest of the night - Trash80, USK, Anamanaguchi, Nordloef, Ikuma…all legendary.

The whole four days have been great (I can’t stress this enough), but my choice ‘discoveries’ have been Trash80 (who is fantastic live) and Cow’P (who’s just stupendous, but previously unknown to me). Check that shit out.

More post-mortem will undoubtedly come… Keep a look out for stream recordings (although I think the stream broke down for my set), youtube vids, whatever. Peace.

Last week at Sundown ‘08 in Devon (where I incidentally played a surprise live set!), me and evilpaul of Ate Bit released a PC demo called Ribbons, Tunnels & Techno - available for download here. Needless to say, my job was the soundtrack; done in Renoise over two evenings with only moments to spare…and we almost forgot to run it at the competition. I’ll post a Vimeo link when evilpaul finally gets off his arse and captures it to vid :)

Something for the weekend

Another fresh start. Got sick of manually hacking out new table entries for every new tune, linking everything up (and usually making an exhausted/drunken mess of it) and never quite being able to pin down the accumulated 1px css disparities of aeons past. Now we’ve got a nifty Tumblr-powered blogpost backend parsed and fed into the news page, a re-housed guestbook and a nice automated listing of everything that gets thrown into the tune download directory.

The previously messy music area will now be more (and deliberately) messy, while I’ll be presenting collections of stuff as musicdisks, archives of modules and probably CD album releases. The first of those will be a tour CD, available exclusively on the Chiptune Alliance Tour (and perhaps less exclusively from this site afterwards, if I’ve got a shitload left over).

I feel like embarking on a dangerously powerful burst of whorish self-promotion over the next few months, so hang onto your filthy little hats.

Chiptune Alliance Tour

Right - it’s that time of year again. Earlier, this year, actually. Chiptune Alliance Tour is happening once more! We’re hitting Edinburgh, Glasgow, Newcastle, Sheffield, Brighton, Bournemouth, Luton and London in approximately that order. Make sure you get to one of them…

Ordinary World

I managed to find a free hour or two to knock up this fast-paced chiptrance cover of Duran Duran’s 1992 classic, Ordinary World. 1992 was a good year - A1200 was released too! Stay tuned for a huge big sack of tiny little Amiga chippies I’ve been churning out lately, and some extremely old ones that have been dusted off.

Wordup!

A couple of months ago, I composed the soundtrack to Wordup! - a fantastic and addictive Nintendo DS game coded by the brilliant Superpanic, which can be downloaded for free here. It’ll run on NDS hardware, if you have a linker cart or Supercard or whatever, or just in Windows with NO$GBA if you’re a cheapskate.

You can find the Intro, Level and Game Over tunes in the music section. The mp3s are recorded with a bit of stereo mixing, as heard on the NDS, rather than Amiga-style 100% panning.

Freedom

I didn’t even need to be asked to do this one :) Some years ago, Scooter covered the tune ‘Freedom’ from Turrican 2 and released it as Level One. This is my reinterpretation of that, in an effort to squeeze some incredibly trancey sounds out of HivelyTracker. Needless to say, Hively came up with the goods (check theĀ music section).
